History

The Washington DC Chapter of the Charmettes was formed as an interest Group in late 1986. Bettye Homes who was a former resident of Tampa Florida and was familiar with the Charmettes, introduced her idea of a chapter to two of her friends, Barbara DeVeaux and Bettye Jamerson.

In late 1986 these three ladies began to invite relatives and friends to become a part of this Organization. Joyce Austin Hillsborough County Chapter was contacted and informed of our interest. We gained her support in the establishment of a chapter, in The Washington DC Metropolitan Area.

Under the guidance of the National Vice President, Dothea Smith, The Washington DC Metropolitan Area Chapter became a reality.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter was installed on Saturday October 10, 1987 at 2:00pm; at the Holiday Inn-Capitol in Washington D.C. Installing Officer was Bettye Stevens, National President.
